Spot is currently seeking a Database Administrator to join the Data Technology group. This role is primarily focused on Microsoft SQL Server databases. The Database Administrator will work under the Lead Database Architect, and with Quantitative, Research, Development and Technology teams to build and maintain various data-related solutions. The ideal candidate will have excellent problem solving skills, keen attention to detail, willingness to deliver solutions of the highest quality, and good understanding of query optimization. The Database Administrator will get an opportunity to work with Big Data technology as well as other emerging and proprietary technologies. This role will divide time between writing and reviewing SQL code, maintaining and managing MS SQL databases, and supporting the database infrastructure.

Responsibilities
• Review SQL Server stored procedures and execution plans. Implement indexes for optimization.
• Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements
• Monitor database maintenance plans and SQL Server Agent jobs
• Develop and maintain live snapshots for production
• Manage database backups and ensure that Disaster Recovery and Data Retention protocols are adhered to
• Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues
• Manage security at all levels of SQL Server
• Work with the IT Operations / development teams for database upgrades and releases
• Participate actively in documentation process
• Ability to multi-task
 

• Hands-on SQL Server 2005/2008 administration, database tuning and troubleshooting experience
• Strong analytical skills and excellent problem solving skills
• 2 to 3 years database administration experience, preferably in a financial environment (bank, hedge fund, trading firm, etc)
• Linux admin experience is a plus
• Good knowledge of SQL language
• Advanced knowledge of database operations (Backups/Restores, Security)

The Senior Quant is member of a trading book team responsible for developing quantitative research, models, and strategies that maximize return on capital for their assigned portfolio. The Sr. Quant is responsible for providing on-desk quantitative expertise, trade modeling, risk calculations, and managing high-risk positions directly with the desk. The Quant will develop trade recommendations, trading strategies, and also lead implementation of some of these strategies within Spot’s automated execution systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop quantitative research, models, and strategies to maximize return on capital an equity derivatives portfolio
• Mentor other quant resources
• Liaise with the quantitative research team
• Work with software and trading systems product managers to generate feature requests that will serve the trading desk
• In conjunction with traders, prioritize modeling and trader tool projects for implementation, delegate work accordingly
• Oversee and check the work of other members of the quant team
• Develop solutions for handling specific market events, special situations, and one-off needs

• Strong ability for original thinking when it comes to mathematical and financial problem solving and the ability to, in time, initiate commercial outcomes
• An excellent eye for the market and know how the models from the quant group calibrate to the market
• Strong background in mathematics and statistics and familiarity with financial models and econometrics
• This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well with persons throughout the firm

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Trading team to identify and formalize quantitative problems relating to option valuation, hedging, and risk management
• Design, develop and implement mathematical models to support Spot’s proprietary trading business
• Integrate successful solutions into production-quality software components
• Work with members of the Research team to translate qualitative insights into quantitative values to assist traders in making evaluations

• Graduate degree in science, math, engineering, finance or statistics required; PhD preferred
• Strong background in Stochastic processes, optimal control, partial differential equations, time series analysis and statistics
• Minimum 2 years of derivatives industry experience, preferably in a trading environment
• Solid theoretical and practical understanding of financial modeling, derivatives valuation, risk management, and econometrics
